Killings: Fulani, Irigwe task security operatives on effectiveness

The Irigwe and the Fulani communities in Bassa Local Government Area have called on the security operatives to improve on their operations.

They made the call at a consultative meeting of key religious and ethnic/community leaders in the state, held yesterday in Jos.

Those who spoke were the representative of Irigwe, Chief Daniel Geh,  and the chairman of the state chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breaders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN),  Alhaji Muhammad Nuru.

In his remarks, Chief Geh said if the security operatives could put in more efforts, the wanton loss of lives and destruction of properties would be curtailed and the much needed peace would return.

He called for the mobilisation of security personnel to the Irigwe chiefdom as Christmas approaches.

Alhaji Nuru said the security personnel should sit up, apply professionalism and desist from harassing innocent people.

He also urged them to take the security situation much more seriously to ensure peace in the state.

Meanwhile, a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting called for the tackling of the use of illicit drugs by youths to curtail criminal activities.

It said: “We wish to call on our citizens as we prepare for the feast of Christmas to be very vigilant and security conscious as they move about their businesses.

“We urge all communities to organise themselves and form vigilante groups to police their areas, especially during this festive period of Christmas. Furthermore, we appeal to the governments to assist the vigilante groups with allowances, training, and equipment.”
