Five corps members died Tuesday evening while others sustained injuries following an auto crash that involved a commercial vehicle at Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The corps members from batch (C) stream II were travelling from Taraba to their home town in Yobe after completing their 21 days orientation course at Sibre Camp, Jalingo, Taraba State.

An eyewitness, Sule Audu, said the accident happened after the commercial bus carrying the corps members had a collision with a moving tractor.

He said the victims were rushed to the Fika health facility where some of them died.

Meanwhile, colleagues of the deceased corp members from Yobe State have expressed shock over the incident.

The details of the deceased corp members were given as Ali Muhammad Ahmad, BSc. Chemistry, Federal University Dutse, Indigene of Potiskum; Audu Sani Tatata, BSc. Chemistry, University of Maiduguri, Potiskum Local Government Area and Auwal Hamisu Bashari, B.A (Ed) Islamic Education, Yobe State University,  Nguru Local Government among others.

The injured victims were transported to Damaturu Specialist Hospital. 

When contacted, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Public Education Officer, Mr Hussaini Haruna, confirmed the incident. 

He could not speak on the exact location of the crash.

Also, an auto crash in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, involving a truck has claimed seven lives. 

Daily Trust learnt that 19 others were injured in a lone accident that occurred yesterday around the Badeku area of Ibadan. 

An eyewitness told Daily Trust that the accident arose from a mechanical fault in which the truck suddenly developed. 

According to the source who simply identified himself as Jelili, the sound of the accident alerted some of the residents of the area that something had happened. 

When contacted, the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Oyo State, Mrs Unce Chukwurah, who confirmed the accident, said the truck that was involved in the accident was carrying 26 labourers going for construction work in the area.

“It was a lone accident. The yellow Tipper vehicle was carrying 26 persons. 19 of them were injured while seven died in the accident.

“The injured have been taken to ASBON Hospital in Gbagi for treatment while the remains of the seven dead have been collected by their relatives for burial,” she said.
