The police, Monday detained a journalist and founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), Fisayo Soyombo.
He was invited over a report on the then Commissioner of Police, Joseph Egbunike, who approved the establishment of a police transit camp in six states, a project the newspaper said was either non-existent or little work done.

Egbunike, now a Deputy Inspector-General of Police, was in charge of the panel set up by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, to investigate the embattled Commander of the Police Intelligence Unit, Abba Kyari.
The journalist, upon his arrival at the Force Headquarters yesterday, in a Facebook post, wrote: “I have just arrived at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, to honour an invitation from the Monitoring Unit of the Inspector General of Police. They say my ‘name and phone number featured in an investigation’ they are conducting.
“The decision to come was straightforward: I am a law-abiding citizen who has committed no crime unless journalism is one. If there is no update on this handle by dusk, it means I have been unjustly detained. I will be surrendering my devices now…”
He was, however, granted bail after about eight hours in police custody and was in the process of perfecting the bail conditions at the time of this report.
Force spokesman, Frank Mba, did not respond to phone calls when contacted on the matter.
