Officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State have resorted to prayers over the national chairmanship ambition of Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Senator George Akume.
The APC in the state has severally alleged that the ruling PDP government in Benue was doing everything, including the recent dragging of Akume to anti-graft bodies, to discredit his chances for the position.
The PDP, on its part, says it was bringing to the public questions as to the management of the funds under Akume’s watch as governor between 1999 and 2007.
State Chairman-Elect of APC, Comrade Austin Agada, during the weekend at a meeting with National Assembly aspirants of the party in Makurdi, urged them to pray for Akume’s emergence as national chairman and to find a common ground to dislodge the ruling party in the state ahead of 2023 general elections.
“This meeting became crucial for us to interface with you because we cannot sleep until we completely displace PDP in 2023. We are prepared to match any strategy they bring forward to de-market our party,” he said.
