The Nasarawa State Government has raised an alarm over a fresh outbreak of Lassa fever in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Health, Dr Janet Angbazo, who revealed this on Friday while addressing newsmen in Lafia said two cases have been confirmed in the state.

The victims, she said, were receiving treatment in Abuja while three suspected cases were being monitored in the state.

Dr Angbazo said some samples were taken to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Reference Laboratory for testing and confirmation.

She said: “Two persons have been confirmed while three suspected cases are being monitored in the state.”

According to her, plans are on the way for the state to commence diagnosis of the disease at the Nasarawa State Infectious Disease Diagnosis and Research Centre (NASIDARC).

She urged residents to take preventive measures against contact with patients and keep their environment neat against rodents.
