Residents of some villages in Wase Local Government of Plateau State have decried prevalent activities of kidnappers in Sapiyo and Bangala areas of the LGA, calling on the security agencies to come to their rescue.
The villagers also said the kidnappers operate in the day with guns and other sophisticated weapons.
Shapi’i Sambo Haruna, who is the youth leader of Wase, told our correspondent on Wednesday that the incessant attacks of kidnappers have prevented business activities and caused a lot of hardship in the affected areas.
“The kidnappers currently prevent residents from going about their legitimate activities and due to that, yesterday, security personnel, vigilantes and other youths of Wase went to some of their hideouts but already fled.
“We suspected that they have informants in some of the villages who often alert them of our movement.
“The security personnel are trying their best but we still need more force to get rid of the criminals in the areas.
“We also call on youths not to be undermining our efforts because if care is not taken, the problem would consume everybody including those undermining our efforts,” the youth leader added.
Shapi’i further called on traditional leaders and other people of the area to be vigilant and proactive to nip in the bud all criminal activities in Wase LGA in order for people to go about their legitimate activities in their various communities.
