Government assures investors of enabling environment

The Plateau State government has assured investors as well as the Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) of an enabling environment in carrying out their business activities and other economic engagements.

The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in the state, Chrysanthus Tuammen Ahmadu Esq., made this known at a one-day sensitization workshop on Business Enabling Environment (BEE) reforms organized by GIZ-NICOP and held in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

He said “The government has recognised the need of MSMEs in the overall growth of the state’s GDP and to this end strives to improve the framework, conditions, business and policies that will favour MSMEs in the state.

“A survey carried out in 2019 with regards to the ease of doing business showed Nigeria ranking 131 out of 190 countries with Economies ranking from 1-20 having simpler and more friendly business regulations.

“Plateau State government has put together reforms geared towards making it more convenient for business owners to thrive in the state.”

In his presentation, the Deputy Director of Lands, Ministry of Lands, Survey and Town Planning, Barrister Haruna Chip, emphasized that it is imperative to take the issue of land administration and land use act seriously in terms of BEE.

Also, the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service used the workshop to notify all SMEs on the recent development in their tax policy as stipulated by the Plateau State Government, warning that the violation of this policy will attract a fine and/or a complete forfeiture of their business.

The service said their tax policy covered micro business, small business and medium business who are all subsumed under trade business.

Among those who participated and made presentations are GIZ-SEDIN representative, Corporate Affairs Commission, Plateau Agricultural Development Programme, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, among others.
