The brief: Dubai visit; Dozens dead; Ganduje’s splash

Hours after Nigeria recorded three cases of the new coronavirus variant named Omicron, President Muhammadu Buhari, accompanied by 10 monisters travelled to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

Members of Nigeria’s green chamber says the aggressive attacks on schools and abduction of students, especially in the north, are affecting education and increasing the number of out-of-school children.

And from Nigeria’s North west, a total of 47 amateur football teams in Kano State are smiling to the banks after the Governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, distributed cheques worth N96m to the clubs to assist them in their preparations for the 2021/2022 season.

COVID-19 Omicron: Buhari, 10 Ministers Jet Out To Dubai

President Muhammadu Buhari accompanied by 10 ministers, on Wednesday, travelled to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, a few hours after Nigeria recorded three cases of the new coronavirus variant named Omicron.

They were accompanied by multiple aides as well as representatives of the business community to participate in an exhibition tagged ‘EXPO 2020 Dubai’.

Kano Boat Mishap: Death Toll Hits 29, Rescue Ongoing

The death toll from the boat mishap which occurred in Kano on Tuesday has hit 29. Twenty corpses, including those of pupils, were recovered on the day of the tragic incident.

When Daily Trust visited Bagwai, where the incident happened, Senior Fire Superintendent, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed that nine more corpses had been recovered.

Attacks On Schools Worsening Out-Of-School Children Menace – Reps

The House of Representatives says aggressive attacks on schools and abduction of students, especially in the north, are affecting education and increasing the number of out-of-school children.

It urged the Federal Ministry of Education, state governments and private schools proprietors to provide more security measures to protect students from abductions and other threats.

Nigerian Singer, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he found out about his family’s wealth when he was 13 years.

The singer disclosed this to American On-Air-Personalities, Rashad Bilal and Troy Millings, on their “Earn Your Leisure” Podcast. Davido said though his father is a billionaire, he lives a normal and simple life.

Ganduje Splashes N96m On 47 Kano Amateur Football Clubs

A total of 47 amateur football teams in Kano State are smiling to the banks after the Governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, on Tuesday, distributed cheques worth N96m to the clubs to assist them in their preparations for the 2021/2022 season.

Governor Ganduje, who was represented by his deputy, Dr.Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna at the elaborate ceremony which was held at the Coronation Hall, Government House Kano donated N3m to each of the team amateur Division One clubs, 29 Division Two clubs got N2m each while eight Division 3 clubs received N1m each.
