The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Reverend Matthew Hassan Kukah, says Nigerian federal universities that are supposed to create a national platform have been reduced to tribal clubs where only those with tribal affiliations to the areas where the schools are located can manage such schools.
He spoke in Abuja on wednesday at the annual lecture and gold prize award of ThisNigeria Media Limited, publishers of ThisNigeria newspaper.

According to him, Nigeria lacks a true national hero that citizens can rally around.
He said this was one of the reasons national cohesion had continued to elude the country.
