The people of Unguwan Hali village of Chawai Chiefdom in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State are rejoicing over the construction of a culvert that will reduce flooding in the community.
Arewa Trust Weekly reports that a Nongovernmental organisation, “When In Need Foundation,” known for its humanitarian activities in Southern Kaduna constructed the culvert.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the traditional ruler of the community, Res-Tsam, Alhaji Yahaya Mohammed, thanked the NGO saying the affected community will now heave a sigh of relief. He said over time, the absence of the culvert had posed a threat to the lives of the affected villagers, especially during the rainy season.
Earlier, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, Mrs. Chetachi Ecton Dikko said the gesture was her way of reaching out to communities in dire need of such basic amenities.
She said it was her passion to not only come to the aid of the needy but to also improve their wellbeing. The Res-Tsam later conferred a traditional title of ‘Uwar Soro’ on Mrs Dikko.
