The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has suspended some of its staff over extortion of passengers.
FAAN, in a statement by Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, said the suspension was in line with the management’s determination to rid the nation’s airports of corrupt officials.
FAAN said it apprehended and suspended the officials caught extorting a passenger at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
The officials, the statement indicated, are staff of aviation security and customer service departments of FAAN.
It said they were immediately suspended, while the On Duty Card (ODC) of their accomplice from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) had been withdrawn.
FAAN said the action was taken to serve as a deterrent to other bad eggs in the system bent on tarnishing the image of the nation.
