NSE holds Iliyasu memorial lecture, induction Saturday

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Kano branch will today (Saturday 27 Nov) hold its annual memorial lecture in honour of the first engineer in Kano State, Iliyasu Salihi, and induct new corporate members.

Born in Dala Local Government Area of Kano in 1929, late Salihi was a trained engineer in the United Kingdom, who graduated in 1958 with a degree in Civil Engineering with specialization in Water Resources Engineering.

He was once the Managing Director, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA) in 1984, and was responsible for building the new federal capital (Abuja). While there, he also served as the NSE Abuja branch chairman.

The theme of the event is “The role of engineers in politics for sustainable infrastructural development in Nigeria.”

Speaking about the vent, the NSE Kano branch chairman, Dayyabu Tijjani, said some carefully selected individuals who had contributed to the advancement of the engineering profession and professionals in Kano State and Nigeria at large would also be recognised.

Kano State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Idris Wada Saleh, is expected to be the special guest of honour, NSE National President, Babagana Mohammed, would be the chairman while Kamila Woopa Maliki, an engineer, would be the guest speaker and M. B. Shehu and A. A. Rabi’u the guests of honour.
