Rural students get 300 bicycles in Borno

The Borno State Government on Wednesday distributed free bicycles to students in rural areas to improve access to schools.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum presented 300 bicycles to the students of the newly established Government Technical Secondary School, Wuyo shortly after commissioning the school to improve access in addition to free textbooks.

The school was part of the 22 projects being commissioned in the southern Borno senatorial zone.

The governor said the bicycles were procured by the previous administration of Governor Kashim Shettima to improve access to rural schools.

The governor had earlier commissioned a project at the General Hospital, Biriyel as well as the newly built house for the district head of Biriyel, and the Tahafizul Quran School of JIBWIS build by the state.

The governor’s spokesman, Malam Isa Gusau, said the 22 projects include 13 newly established and rehabilitated secondary and primary schools; six primary healthcare centres and three municipal buildings comprising two police stations and a government lodge as well as a shopping complex.

The statement explained that the projects are sited in villages and towns of Hawul, Shani, Bayo and Kwaya Kusar local government areas.
