FG Mulls N2.4tr Palliative As N1.8tr Annual Subsidy Goes

The federal government is planning to spend N2.4tr under a transport palliative scheme to cushion the effect of the planned removal of oil subsidy proposed for next year.

This amount, according to a computation by Daily Trust, is over N600 billion higher than what the government spends to keep the price band of the Premium Motor Spirit (MPS) otherwise called petrol, at between N162 and N165 per litre. The government’s annual subsidy spending stands at N1.8tr.

‘Nigeria Loses Billions Of Dollars To Non-Implementation Of Cargo Tracking Note’

The Citizens Advocacy for Social and Economic Rights (CASER) says Nigeria has continued to lose billions of dollars in revenue to the non-implementation of the Cargo Tracking Note (CTN).

Its Executive Director, Frank Tietie, in a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said: “unscrupulous importers” were behind the implementation failure and the general loss of revenue being witnessed at the port.

2022 National Census To Gulp N190bn – Senate Panel

The Senate Committee on National Population and National Identity on Wednesday disclosed that over N190bn had been earmarked for the conduct of the national census next year.

The chairman of the committee, Senator Sahabi Alhaji Yaú, disclosed this to newsmen after defending the 2022 budget of the agencies under his panel’s supervision before the Appropriation Committee.
