The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed has banned ‘night crawlers’ from visiting the university.
Speaking on a radio programme monitored in Dutse, the VC said female students were in the university to learn and as their guardian, the university management would not allow outsiders to compromise their moral values.
He said female students, whose actions were found wanting during the night patrol, were reported to their parents.
He said in this era of general insecurity, especially kidnapping, the university would not tolerate tinted cars in the daytime and most importantly at night.
The VC said those who claimed to be fiancé to the female students should visit them in their homes and not in the university at night and in tinted cars, warning that anybody caught henceforth would be prosecuted.
He also warned teaching and non-teaching staff against the sexual harassment of students and cautioned students from improper behaviour towards the staff of the university.
He disclosed that the mentor/mentee programme of the university had commenced. Under the programme, each student would be attached to an academic staff as mentors who would serve as their guardian throughout their stay in the university adding that the mentors were expected to advise the students in terms of academics, moral and social matters among others.
Prof Mohammed also said the university had zero tolerance for drug abuse and any student caught would face the full wrath of the law.
