Sardauna foundation worries over resurgence of insecurity on Kaduna-Abuja Road

The Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation has expressed worry over the resurgence of banditry and kidnapping along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway.

Bandits had last Sunday attacked the Kaduna-Abuja Highway, killing a former Director of Protocol and a governorship aspirant in Zamfara State, Alhaji Sagir Hamidu, and abducting an unspecified number of travellers.

But the foundation in a statement signed by its Director-General, Abubakar Gambo,  expressed worry that: “In spite of government’s effort to curb the situation, abductions and killings on the infamous Kaduna-Abuja Highway still go on unabated, reflecting the audacity with which the bandits operate.”

While condemning the attack, he said the activities of these criminals along the corridors had become a nightmare to commuters, with motorists becoming increasingly fearful of plying the roads.

“It is high time more decisive actions were taken to weed the highway, and indeed the entire region, of these undesirable elements.

“We, therefore, call on sustained actions against the bandits and all those abiding and abating them in their nefarious activities,” he added.
