At least seven girls aged between 10 to 12 have reportedly died when their boat capsized with 10 occupants in Gamafoi village of Kafin Hausa local government area of Jigawa state.
Reports from the area indicated that the children, who were 10 in number from Gafasa village in Kafin Hausa local government area were traveling to Gasanya village in Auyo local government area for a religious activity.

According to the Gamafoi’s village head, Malam Adamu Haruna Gamafoi who reported the incident to the police said “the incident happened at around 3:30 pm (this evening) a boat capsized with Girls numbering about ten (10), three (3) were rescued while seven (7) others reported dead.”
It was said that they were in a haste to get to their destination and they decided to use a boat parked at River Gasanya by themselves in the absence of the Craftsman.
He said they were all recovered and taken to Kafin Hausa General Hospital were seven were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The State Police Command confirmed the development.
The spokesman of the Police Command, ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam, in a statement said, the incident occurred when the victims were going for Maulud celebration.
He added that investigation had commenced to ascertain the actual cause of the incident.
