The Raise Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, has sensitised women and secondary school students in Niger State on the mode of transmission and prevention of cervical cancer.
The founder of the group and wife of the governor, Dr Amina Abubakar Sani Bello, said during a town hall meeting with women and representatives of the traditional and religious institutions as well as Parent- Teacher Association, in Minna, that the sensitisation campaign was to encourage women and adolescents to take HPV vaccines which is the only available preventive measure against the disease.
“We are starting with parents but our main targets are secondary school students, both boys and girls, on the dangers associated with contracting the Human Papilloma Virus. We also plan to vaccinate the students after voluntary screening,” she said.
Dr Bello said the sensitisation campaign was also to encourage women and students to to take the vaccine.
