Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will declare open, this year’s conference of the Institute of Directors Nigeria.

Chairman, National Organising Committee of the conference, Alhaji Lamis Dikko, stated this in Abuja on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to Media Trust Limited (publishers of Daily Trust and other titles).

He said the 2021 Annual Directors Conference, slated to hold next week in Abuja, would provide a platform for players in sectors of the Nigerian economy to deepen their commitments to best corporate governance and practices.

Dikko said the conference, with the theme, ‘Creating the Future: Deepening the Corporate Governance Practice through Multi-sectoral and Multi-general Collaborations’, would focus on the significance of engaging new generation of directors, young entrepreneurs and the public sector in the quest to deepen the practice of sound corporate governance.

He said the chairman of BUA Group, Alhaji Abdul Rabiu, would chair the opening ceremony.

He said the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Adeniyi Adebayo and the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, would also be in attendance.

He said: “The good news is that the IOD Charter Bill is almost done at the National Assembly. The second reading of the Charter Bill was done at the House of Representatives last week.”

He expressed hope that the bill would be passed this week and that the president would sign it quickly as it “seeks to ensure sound corporate governance and professionalism, adequate training for directors.”

The chairman of the Board of Directors of Media Trust Limited, Malam Kabiru Yusuf, said as part of the company’s drive to be an all-inclusive media platform, it would be launching its television segment soon.

“We’ve already started test transmission about two months ago. We hope to start full transmission in December so that we’ll now possibly become the first all-inclusive media outlet in Nigeria,” Yusuf said.
