The newly appointed Commissioner, Kafanchan Municipal Authority, Phoebe Sukai Yayi, has said the authority would explore every possible source of revenue generation to boost the financial status of the state so as to enhance development.
The Kafanchan Municipal Authority alongside Kaduna Capital Territory and Zaria Metropolitan Authority were created in October after Governor Nasir El-Rufai signed a law for their establishment in August 2021.
Based on the law, the three authorities will be funded from the state and local government, a decision, which raised concerns among legal practitioners who claim it could usurp the constitutional powers of the country’s third tier of government as enshrined in constitution. However, Governor Nasir El-Rufai has made it clear that the authorities were not a new tier of government and therefore, their jurisdiction has been clearly spelt out.
During familiarisation visits to the palaces of two paramount rulers in Kaura Local Government Area, Yayi said teamwork was required from all stakeholders for the desired objectives to be achieved.
She said the Kafanchan Municipal Authority will pay adequate attention to the construction of roads, modern markets, motor parks, hospitals and schools and also look into the possibility of developing tourists’ sites among other things.
The Chief of Moro’a, Mallam Tagwai Sambo, who spoke through the Magajin Garin Moro’a, Mr Danladi Nache, called for the development of the Kajim River to serve as a tourist’s site.
The Agwam Takad, Mr Tobias Nkom Wada said clay was available in large quantity in the chiefdom and called on the government to woo investors to avail themselves of the opportunity and establish ceramic industries.
