Experts engage journalists, CSO’s on cybersecurity

Technology experts drawn from different backgrounds have organised an interactive session with journalists and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Kano on the need to observe online safety. 

The workshop, which aimed at equipping participants on the state of encryption in Nigeria, safeguarding citizens’ data, was organised by the Africa Media and Information Technology Initiative (AfriMITI) as part of its global encryption and #Marketheswitch Campaign held in Kano. 

The initiative’s Executive Director, Garzali Haruna Ibrahim, said journalists were selected as part of the training because of the role they play in the society and how they carry out their activities especially investigative journalism, which requires a stimulus to go beyond the conventional system.

Advising the participants, a cybersecurity expert, Engr M. A Sulaiman enjoined them to look into privacy policy and data privacy of applications used on mobile phones.
