A philanthropist and founder of Sardaunan Gwandu Foundation, Yusuf Haruna Rasheed, has empowered 800 girls, mainly secondary schools leavers, with a startup fund of N10, 000 to begin petty trading.
Rasheed said during the disbursement of the fund yesterday in Birnin Kebbi that the intervention was aimed at encouraging the girls to embrace economic independence and self-reliance at a young age.
The philanthropist, who is also a special adviser on power and politics to the Kebbi State governor, expressed his appreciation for the cooperation his foundation had been enjoying from the state government, saying, “Under the present arrangement, 800 girls would benefit from the money being disbursed.”
In his remark at the occasion, the state governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, said his government would continue to give all the deserving support to small-scale businesses considering its proficiency in economic development at the grassroots.
