SPWs: 4000 beneficiaries yet to get allowances in Gombe

About 4000 beneficiaries of the 774 Special Public Works (SPWs) scheme in Gombe State are yet to receive their allowances, months after the programme ended.

The state’s Coordinator of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Malam Mustapha Hassan, stated this while flagging-off Advance Business Training (ABT) of 540 participants selected from the three senatorial districts of the state.

He said an estimated 11,000 beneficiaries from the state that participated in the scheme are expected to be paid N20,000 during the three months duration of the scheme.

Malam Hassan how explained that the problem was with the banks not with the NDE, saying the directorate is working to resolve the problem.

The coordinator added that the advance basic training was designed to broaden the knowledge of SPW beneficiaries in creating wealth and employment generation for themselves, as well as how to generate business ideas and marketing plans.

He further stated that the ABT is an exit strategy for the beneficiaries to properly invest the N60,000 allowances they received during the three months of the scheme.
