Police parade 15 for kidnapping, recover 500 cattle in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has arrested 15 persons for alleged kidnapping, cattle rustling, armed robbery and human trafficking, and recovered 500 cattle in various operations in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Kuryas, while parading the suspects on Wednesday in Minna, said 10 of the suspects were arrested following intelligence that gunmen had invaded Sonfada village, Lapai, and abducted two victims.

Kurya said two kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt while 10 suspects were arrested at the forest with about 500 cattle, two Bajaj motorcycles, a sum of N270,000 and five cutlasses recovered from them.

He said two suspected kidnappers and a human trafficker were arrested at Nasko Magama Local Government Area of the state on November 11.

The suspects, Samaila Makeri Auna and Musa Umar, were said to have confessed to the crime and other kidnapping escapades.

Makeri also confessed to having trafficked over 30 teenagers from Kebi and Niger states to Kwara and Oyo states respectively.
