Two NGOs, Partnership for Advancing Women in Economic Development (PAWED) and Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO) have jointly trained 35 leaders of women’s cooperatives and economic collectives in Edo State on advocacy and communication with a view to empowering them.
Speaking to newsmen yesterday in Benin, PAWED National Coordinator, Ms Fa’iza Munttaka, said the training was part of ongoing effort to place women groups and associations to be able to advocate improved investment in women.
Represented by Mr Sani Ochepo, she said over 300 women groups in Niger, Kwara, Lagos, Taraba and Abia states had benefited from PAWED’s capacity building programme.
Also speaking, LAPO’s acting Chief Executive, Chief Honestue Ayo Obadiora, said the training was designed to strengthen the capacities of women’s collectives and associations to be able to demand more investments from the state and local government areas.
