Daily Trust Golf Tournament gathers momentum

The one-day golf tournament being organised by Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust is generating a lot of interest among golfing stakeholders in the public and private sectors across the country.

According to the General Manager, Business and Strategy, Daily Trust, Ahmed I. Shekarau, the one-day tournament which will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the 18-hole Ibom Icon Golf Course in Uyo is expected to feature at least 120 Nigerian amateur golfers.

“We made the conscious decision to promote the game of golf through the Daily Trust Golf Tournament, because golf’s growing popularity among Nigeria’s prime movers has elevated the sport to a strategic meeting point for the elite class.

“Golf creates the opportunity for business networking and therefore serves as an ideal course to enhance the drive for unity of purpose by citizens, especially at this challenging period for our country,” said Shekarau.

He disclosed that numerous golf promoters from the public and private sectors have signified their interests in partnering with Daily Trust towards putting together a successful tournament.

According to him, the organisations that have signified interest to partner with the newspaper company in hosting the tournament include Innoson Motors Nigeria Limited, RwandAir, the Defence Headquarters, the Nigerian Navy, and some state governments, among others.

He disclosed further that several golfers from Benin, Enugu, Kano, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kaduna, Katsina and Lagos have either paid their entry fees or made commitments on their readiness to be part of the one-day tourney.

He said a lot of the golfers are excited by the prospects of winning the star prize in this tournament.

The star prize for both the men and the ladies’ winner, is an all-expenses-paid golfing weekend in Kigali, Rwanda; 3-night stay in a 5-star hotel in Kigali; 2-rounds of golf at the Premier 18-hole Kigali Golf Club and a business class round-trip on Abuja-Kigali ticket on Rwanda Air.

Shekarau, therefore, advised golfers with handicaps to take advantage of the tournament to improve their status in the game.

He revealed that the entry fee for participants is N40,000, and that the closing date for registration is November 20, 2021.

The Daily Trust golf tournament is an amateur event which debuted in 2018 in Abuja.
