APC a barren party – Lamido

A former governor of Jigawa State and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a barren party that cannot conceive to deliver good governance for the country.

Lamido spoke last night while featuring on Trust TV’s Daily Politics.

He said the APC was only formed to grab power but lacks the character and capacity to bring the needed development to Nigerians.

Lamido said: “All they (APC) say is PDP is dirty but they are poaching on our members to come and build their party. APC taking PDP members into their fold is corruption.

“Nobody in APC is original. The party is very corrupt.”.

Speaking on the just concluded convention of the PDP and chances of the party in the 2023 election, Lamido expressed optimism of victory for his party, adding the outcome of the convention signified a great hope for the country.

“The convention was not a PDP convention but a Nigerian convention because of the level of insecurity, divisions and bad economy in the country today, Nigerians are yearning for change”, he said.

He described the PDP as a party that had the interest of the ordinary Nigerians at heart right from the outset, adding that the vision of the party was to restore hope to Nigerians.

Lamido recalled how he and other PDP leaders formed the G9 and G18 groups to stop General Sani Abacha’s transition programme and restore hope to Nigerians.

“Arising from the outcome of June 12, the country went through crisis and lack of trust.

“There was mistrust in the land when Abacha came on board, we felt that we needed a very genuine democracy which should be able to unite Nigeria, restore trust and love.

“When Abacha was nursing his transition ambition, we felt that it will not work. We the G9, late Bola Ige, Late Solomon Lar, Adamu Ciroma and others formed the G9; we believe, you cannot heal Nigeria if you don’t address June 12. We said, what do we do in this new transition?

“We formed the G9 to fight Abacha transition ambition and not his government. After that, we formed the G18; we wrote a memo to Abacha challenging his transition. Solomon Lar said of all of you, I am the eldest; let me take it to him; in the event, I’m picked up, you will disappear from the scene.

“That same night, I and Rimi were picked up by the SSS and we were only released after Abacha died. When Abacha died, Rimi and I were released from prison”, he said.

He said the group met and discussed how to form a political party that will engender trust, leading to the formation of the PDP.

Lamido said the founding leaders of the PDP decided to field former President Olusegun Obasanjo from the South West instead of Alex Ekwueme in their quest to heal the wounds of June 12.

Reacting,  APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, told Daily Trust in a telephone chat last night that “We’ll allow the PDP to make their noise while we do our underground work and see on that day whether the APC is barren.

“The APC has given birth to triplets. We’ve already given birth to three of their (PDP) governors and we’re still pregnant. And we are going to deliver another set of triplets”.
