The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has launched phase II of the Digital Switchover (DSO) in Kano.

The launch marks an end to all analogue operations in the entertainment, creative industry and broadcasting stations in the state.

The Director-General of NBC, Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, said the digital switchover held a lot of promise to creative minds and wealth creation opportunities.

“Kano is crucial to the success of the DSO Project in Nigeria. The DSO in Kano and Nigeria at large will help to checkmate signals straying into Nigeria from neighbouring countries and its attendant possible security implications,” he said.

Giving an update on Nigeria’s digital switchover, the Chairman Digiteam Nigeria, Edward Amana, revealed that hundreds of youth and information officers had been trained to meet the demand in Kano.

During the launch, the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for ensuring the success of the digital switchover.

Mohammed, while also commending the effort of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration for approving the event, said the project would enhance information services, increase market competition and a variety of opportunities.

“Part of our vision is a digital economy for job and wealth creation. Over a million youth are expected to get jobs as a result of the digital switchover,” he said.

At the event, the governor urged viewers to take advantage of the digital transformation, assuring that his government would ensure that content produced are up to standard.

“So we returned the cheque to NAHCON for correction since a dead person cannot clear a cheque. They promised to return it to the Saudi authority for correction but unfortunately, COVID-19 came.

“As we speak, the issue is now with NAHCON and we are also waiting to hear from them,” she said.

She, however, said the board was not aware of Sani’s case.
