The Kaduna State Peace Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to restore peace to warring communities in Takad and Aten Chiefdoms in Kaura and Riyom local government areas of Kaduna and Plateau states, respectively.
The two permanent commissioners of the commission, Mrs Rebecca Sako John and Hajiya Khadijah Hawaja Gambo, stated this when they met with the Takad, Aten and Fulani women for Peace Committee at the palace of the Chief of Takad, in Fadan Attakar, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Arewa Trust Weekly reports that the engagement is a follow-up meeting after the signing of a commitment to peace pact by the affected communities. A series of dialogue meetings with women, youths, development associations and traditional leaders have been held within the Takad and Fulani in the affected LGAs.
The two permanent commissioners, who advised the women to be mindful of their utterances against each other, also challenged them to resist accusing any particular ethnic group as their oppressors.
The Agwam Takad I, Mr Tobias Nkom Wada, challenged the women to ensure active participation during the meeting to achieve the set objectives.
He commended the Kaduna State Peace Commission and the Plateau State Peace Agency for their commitment to solving disputes in the area. In their various contributions, the participants expressed their willingness to be reintegrated into their communities and appealed to government to rebuild their homes.
