The newly elected local government chairmen in Kaduna State have been urged to work for the development of the grassroots and desist from partisanship.
Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, who cautioned the chairmen, also warned against any form of discrimination against residents who may not share the same ethnicity or religion with them.
The governor who stated this after swearing in 16 chairmen elected on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) and five under the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) noted that elections could not be conducted in Birnin-Gwari due to security concerns while the outcome in Jaba is a subject of litigation.
El-Rufai recalled that his administration has taken careful steps to reform the local government system for performance by addressing the capacity deficit and directing the recruitment of professionals, including lawyers, engineers and architects into the local government service.
Meanwhile, the LGA chairman of Kaduna North, Muktar Baloni, while swearing in his councilors at the Magajin Gari secretariat, urged them to be fair in discharging their duties. He also expressed readiness to work with them all irrespective of party affiliations.
