Nigeria needs competent, healthy president in 2023 – Bishop Ajakaye

The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most Rev.  Felix Ajakaye, has urged Nigerians to elect a competent and healthy president and governors that will transform the country in 2023. Ajakaye, who noted that agitations for zoning might not be out of place, said the competence, health and intellect of candidates must be considered.

He spoke in Ado Ekiti Sunday while delivering a lecture titled, “Ekiti Politics And The Search for Great Leadership,” to mark the 2021 Annual Lecture/Award presentation of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council.

The cleric said, “We are tired of a weak president. We shouldn’t allow mediocres to be leading us and if we allow that, then we are in serious trouble.”

At the 2022 governorship poll in Ekiti, Ajakaye advised the electorate to vote wisely to elect a governor that could bring an enduring legacy.

The NUJ chapel chairman, Victor Ogunje, said the lecture was organised to proffer solutions to seeming leadership deficits facing Ekiti.

Bishop Ajakaye was among the awardees. Others were the Senator representing Ekiti Central, Opeyemi Bamidele; a veteran journalist, Chief Femi Ajayi; a member of the House of Representatives, Femi Bamisile, and the Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Prof. Eddy Olanipekun.
