A 26-year-old man, Aliyu Idris, who put himself up for sale has been arrested by Kano State Hisbah Board operatives in Kano state.
Idris, who hail from Soba local Government of Kaduna State, had said he could be bought for N20 million.
But after his arrest by Hisbah, he withdrew his intention.
Last week, Idris was found roaming the streets of Kano city with a placard that read, “This man is for sale for N20m.”
Confirming the development on Wednesday, the Hisbah Commander General, Dr. Harun Sani Ibn Sina, that the young man was arrested because it is forbidden in Islam for one to sell himself.
“Of course, we arrested and interrogated him on why he took that decision. We later preached to him that in Islam it is forbidden for one to sell himself.
“And we told him that as a human being he does not possess himself, as that he does not have the right to sell off himself. He accepted our preaching and withdrew his earlier intention,” the Hisbah Commander added.
Ibn Sina called on the general public, especially parents, to take good care of their children as shouldered on them by Allah and for better society.
Responding, Aliyu said he did not know that what he did was prohibited in Islam.
“I didn’t know that what I wanted to do is a sin. But now that I realised my mistake, I have withdrawn my intention to sell myself. I seek forgiveness from Allah the Almighty.”
Aliyu also tendered an apology, promising not to commit such in future.
