112, 500 farmers from 20 LGA’s benefit from Kano agro- project

 

Not fewer than 112, 500 farmers have benefited from the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) being implemented by Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) in 20 LGAs of Kano State to address the fundamental root cause of farmers’ low productivity by promoting new agricultural technologies to boost agribusiness in the state. 

This was disclosed by the association’s Deputy Country Director, Dr Abdulhamid Gambo during a mega field day organised by the SAA held at Lakwaya village in Gezawa Local Government Area.

According to him, the project, which is being implemented by the SAA with funding from Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) and Lives and Livelihood Fund (LLF), is aimed at improving agricultural activities, reducing poverty and ensures food security as well as to improve an effective agribusiness in selected agricultural value chains of rice, maize, sorghum and millet in the state. 

Similarly, the Managing Director, Kano State Agricultural Development Agency (KNARDA), Dr Junaidu Yakubu explained that the 5-year development project was aimed at strengthening food and nutrition security of vulnerable populations in the state through sustainable development of livestock and crop-selected value chains.
