Unmask cartel padding teachers’ salaries, Ortom charges LG chairmen

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has ordered the 23 council chairmen in the state to unmask the cartel padding primary school teachers’ salaries.

Gov Ortom gave the order during a meeting with the chairmen, board members of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and other stakeholders at the Government House, Makurdi.

The governor, who gave the chairmen one month to identify the cartel, said it was worrisome that despite retirement of primary school teachers, deaths, among others, the salaries wage bill was still increasing.

“Do the dead resurrect to receive salaries and go back to the grave?” Gov Ortom queried.

He, therefore, said if proper checks were carried out with the involvement of the chairmen, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), among others, leakages and other unwholesome activities would be stopped to give room for more recruitment.
