Buhari commissions Baze University Hospital, pledges better healthcare

President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated the commitment of his administration to improving healthcare for citizens.

He spoke in Abuja on Saturday while commissioning the 200-bed capacity Baze University Hospital described as the largest private hospital in Africa.

Buhari, represented by the Minister of Special Duties, George Akume, noted that healthy citizenry is a step towards improved productivity and efficiency.

He commended the university’s contributions to human capacity development, saying its impact in the last 10 years deserved sustenance.

Akume cut the symbolic tape with more well wishes for the growth of the nation’s health sector in company of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’aad Abubakar; the university’s chancellor and former vice president, Mohammed Namadi Sambo; the university’s founder and pro-phancellor, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed and the vice chancellor, Prof. Tahir Mamman, SAN.

The commissioning ceremony also came with the 7th and 8th combined graduation ceremony of the university where 719 students bagged a range of first and second degrees in addition to the 10th anniversary celebration of the commencement of the institution, now reputed for “the provission of quality and excellent tertiary education”

According to a statement from the university, it was granted a provisional license in 2011 and took off with 17 students and one building which was the nucleus of all academic and administrative activities at that time.

“Today, there are over 50,000sq meters of functional space in academic and ancillary structures including: The Administrative Block, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Computing & Applied Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Medical & Health Sciences with high-end equipment and facilities”,  the statement noted.

The university had, before Saturday, had six consecutive convocations which produced over 2,000 graduates in different disciplines of Law, Engineering, Management Sciences, Social Sciences, Computing and Applied Sciences, and so on.
