A former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, has warned that the looming disaster of climate change will be worse than the COVID-19 crisis if there was no urgent action to address it.
Okorocha, who raised the alarm weekend in Abuja, said while the problem was created by the developed countries through carbon monoxide emissions into the atmospheric space from diesel-powered plants in the time of industrial evolution, Africa is the worst hit now for refusing to embrace the green revolution.

Speaking in his capacity as the leader of Climate Change Advocacy in Africa conferred on him by campaigners of Green Revolution across Africa, Okorocha said the global village is in a disaster of climate change.
The disaster, he said, if not averted now would have a more devastating impact in Africa, where the majority is battling with poverty.
“The looming disaster of climate change, if not urgently addressed through tree planting and green revolution, will be worse than COVID-19 because having fought nature for centuries and many decades nature is fighting back now.
“As much as we worry about the insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other security challenges, we should also be worried about the crisis of climate change.
“We must stop pollution. We need to go green as quickly as possible by planting trees, powering all our technologies through solar energy,” Okorocha said.
He said the Rochas Foundation Green Initiative would provide the required platform for advocacy and actions against climate change effect in Africa at an International Conference to be held in Nigeria before the Glasgow Summit in November.
Earlier in his remarks, Jerome Ringo, the Goodwill Ambassador, Trade and Investment, Pan-African Parliament, stressed the need for Africa needs to take its place in the global climate decision making.
