Leaders of Fulani communities in Atyap chiefdom of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State have demanded that their members, who fled various villages in the area due to insecurity, be allowed to return toward ending the lingering crisis in the chiefdom.

The leaders also demanded that the killing of their members and cattle be stopped forthwith to guarantee peace in chiefdom.

The demands were made during a meeting with the Peace and Security Partnership Committee (ACPSPC) Atyap Chiefdom held in Kafanchan.

Arewa Trust Weekly reports that the committee had resolved to meet separately with contending communities in the chiefdom which comprised the Atyap, Hausa and Fulani to hear their perspectives on the way forward toward ending the killings and destruction of properties in the chiefdom.

At the meeting, the chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Ardo Umar Yusuf, appealed that the Fulani be given the freedom to rear their cattle in all parts of the chiefdom without any form of molestation.

He also advised that youths, who often take laws into their hands in the event of any breach of peace, be cautioned to desist from their excesses.

Some of the Fulani leaders also demanded that compensation be paid when a cow is killed just as they are made to pay financial compensation when their cattle strayed into farmlands and destroyed crops.

The leaders, while lamenting the destruction of lives and properties in the area, promised to handover any Fulani found to have committed any crime to the law enforcement agency.

Earlier, the chairman of the Peace Committee, Mr. John Bala Gora, said the meeting was intended to hear the Fulani perspective on the way forward concerning the ongoing crisis in the chiefdom.
