Olokun deity behind peace, wealth in Badagry, Lagos – Gani Adams

Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has said the peace and tranquillity enjoyed in Badagry and its environs was as a result of the spiritual support from the Olokun deity, adding that this year’s edition of the Olokun Festival has the potential of boosting the economy of Lagos State and also enhancing the eco-tourism of the host community. 

Speaking at a briefing to unveil the programmes for this year’s edition of the Olokun Festival, Iba Gani Adams, who is also the chief promoter of Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF), revealed that the annual fiesta has made significant impacts on boosting the economy of the ancient town and the entire state. 

Eko Trust reports that Olokun is the goddess of the sea which is celebrated annually across Yorubaland and parts of Edo. Olokun is believed to be the goddess with the power to give children to barren women.

 Adams also reiterated the need to use festivals as tools to project the culture and tradition of the Yoruba race. 

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Olokun Festival planning committee, Ambassador Muyiwa Osinaike, said the festival opens a vista of opportunities for traders to do their businesses and visitors will also know more about the Badagry ancestry, culture as well as the tradition of the people.
