Kwankwaso in EFCC net over ‘pension fraud’

Former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is being interrogated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegation of pension fraud.

The PDP chieftain was said to have been invited for question following a petition from some retirees.

An official of the anti-graft agency confirmed that the former governor honoured the Commission’s invitation adding that “he is responding to questions on alleged fraud following a series of petitions the EFCC received against him.”

In one of such petitions, the former governor was accused of diverting N10bn meant for the payment of pensions and construction of houses but he had in the past denied same allegation.

The EFCC is yet to react to its latest action but Daily Trust had reported that the anti-graft agency was investigating the former governor over an allegation of diversion of local government funds amounting to N3.08billion.

In a petition, one Barrister Mustapha Danjuma, who wrote on behalf of Engineer Abubakar Maisha’ani and Alhaji Najumai Garba Kobo, had alleged that Kwankwaso received contributions of N70 million from each of the 44 local government councils (totaling N3.08billion) towards his presidential primary in 2015.

Kwankwaso had contested the APC presidential primary in 2015 but lost to President Muhammadu Buhari.

He later defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
