9 girls drown, 3 missing as canoe capsizes

It was gathered that the girls  were travelling to Lanjan to buy Cassava and got drowned in a river in Jobawa.
Officials of the Kano State Emergency Management Agency told our correspondent that 12 girls were in the canoe but the bodies of nine of them had been found. Mallam Usman Ado of the Relief and Rehabilitation department of the agency said yesterday that three of the girls were still missing.
“The boatman survived. We learnt that three of the girls are still missing,” he said.
Efforts to get the Kano police command’s reaction on the report yielded no results. Meanwhile, the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, has urged parents of the girls to take the mishap as the will of Allah.
“Accept it as the will of Allah but you people should continue to look for the three missing girls,” he said when the case was reported to him.
