9 arrested as customs intercepts expired seasoning, others

The Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), on Thursday, said it arrested nine smugglers while trying to bring into Nigeria products that are harmful to human health.

It said some of the products intercepted were expired seasoning, poultry products, rice and petrol.

The acting Controller of FOU Zone A, Hussein Kehinde Ejibunu, described the actions of the suspects as misplaced priority, noting that the use of one’s hard earned forex for the importation of expired seasoning (chicken cubes), used clothes, shoes and tyres, was not only injurious to the economy, but also a despicable act by desperate importers to make monetary gains at the detriment of peoples’ health.
