The Programme Manager Edo Malaria Elimination Programme, Dr Williams Iyekekpolor, has disclosed that about 85 per cent of patients seeking treatment in hospitals in Edo State are infected with malaria.
Iyekekpolor disclosed this in Benin on the occasion of the 2024 World Malaria Day,
He said according to 2020 report, nationally, Nigeria still accounts for 25 per cent of malaria prevalence while Edo accounts for 30 per cent prevalence of malaria.
“If you go to out-patient departments in our hospitals, you will discover that 80 to 85 per cent of the patients are malaria-infected,” he said.

He explained that between 2020 and 2030, Edo State will be able to achieve zero malaria as it had a progression of malaria reduction from 50 per cent to 30 per cent within two years.
