At least 81 police officers are on trial for various offences committed within the Lagos metropolis.
It was learnt that some of the offences committed include murder, abuse of office and extortion.
The Lagos State Police Command said the trial was to promote discipline and core values of policing in the state.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this, said the 81 officers were arrested between 2019 and October 2020 for committing various criminal and disciplinary offences.
Adejobi said seven of them had already been prosecuted and dismissed while ten others were dismissed based on the recommendation of the orderly room trial judge.
He said 18 police officers had their ranks reduced while 29 were issued warning letters.
“16 of the personnel were discharged and acquitted for want of evidence. The personnel that were tried in the orderly room proceedings conducted at various locations in Lagos State included 45 Inspectors, 29 sergeant and seven Corporals” he added.
The state Police Spokesman further stated that some senior officers of the command were also queried for various disciplinary offences.
He said the queries are being processed at the Force Headquarters Abuja for necessary action and punishments.
He appealed to the general public to report any misconduct of police personnel to appropriate authorities as such will be treated accordingly and justice will be done.
