Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has reiterated his commitment to promote educational and cultural cooperation with the government of Egypt, towards ensuring sustainable development.

Ganduje made the remark during the presentation of offer ofscholarship to eight students from Kano, by Al-Azhar University, Egypt, through the office of the Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, a statement, signed by the Director General of Media and Communications,
Government House Kano, Alhaji Salihu Tanko Yakasai, said.

“We have come a long way in the friendship between Nigeria and Egypt and though activities such as the scholarship scheme, bilateral relation would be enhanced,” he said.

Dr. Ganduje described the scholarship as important, saying it had come at a time when the state government was unable to send more students aboard owing to financial constraint.

The scholarship came barely two months after nine indigenes of the state got a similar offer from the Egyptian university.

The governor thanked the Egyptian government and the University for the investment in the future of Kano, urging the beneficiaries to treasure the gesture by ensuring moral and academic distinction.

The governor announced a donation of $1, 000 to each of the students as a token of the government’s readiness to support them to attain success.

In his speech, the Cultural Attaché, Egyptian Embassy in Nigeria, Dr.Ibrahim Ibrahim the scholarship awarded to eight Kano students encompassed tuition, travel ticket, accommodation, feeding health insurance, books and a monthly stipend.

“Four of the students got admission to study for degree programmes while the other four, who are younger,  have been offered sponsorship to complete secondary education then proceed for degree programmes at Al-Azhar,” he stated.

Dr. Ibrahim assured that the government of Egypt would continue to enhance cooperation with Nigeria in the area of education as well as other endeavors of mutual interest.
