She noted that FRSC operatives from Mowe Unit in conjunction with Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) carried out rescue operation.

She explained that 10 persons comprising seven male adults and three female adults were involved while one male adult and one female adult were recorded dead from the crash.

“The fatal crash was caused by excessive speed and wrongful overtaking on the part of the Toyota driver who then rammed into a moving truck,” she said.

Okpe noted that the injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the corpses were deposited at Idera Mortuary, Sagamu.

However, a police officer and five other persons on Tuesday lost their lives in a motor accident that occurred at Ogbese on the Akure/Owo Highway in Ondo State.

Daily Trust gathered that the accident which involved a red Man Diesel Truck and one Toyota Sienna marked FFN 310 PU occurred due to excessive speeding.

Confirming the accident to newsmen in Akure, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state (FRSC), Ezekiel SonAllah, said the accident involved eight persons transiting on the highway.

SonAllah attributed the cause of the accident to speed violation (SPV), wrongful overtaking (WOV) and loss of control (LOC).

He explained that the items recovered from the scene of the accident which included money and mobile phones had been handed over to the police from Ogbese in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.

“The six corpses have been deposited at the General Hospital morgue, Akure, while obstruction has been cleared and the vehicles, money and phones were handed over to the police,” the FRSC boss said.

While calling on motorists to abide by the prescribed speed limit when on the highway, SonAllah urged all drivers to always ensure they install speed-limiting devices in their vehicles.

He advised the drivers to always be “safety conscious” at all times and avoid overtaking if it is not safe.

“Passengers should not only warn drivers in an event of excess speed but also report them to security agencies manning the highways,” he added.
