Eight cows were allegedly poisoned in Apo Mechanic Site, Apo District, Abuja, leaving seven dead, Sanusi Bara, National Security Officer of Gan’Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria, has said.

Bara who spoke with City News at the scene of the incident yesterday said a herder took his herd out for grazing on Sunday at about 4:00p.m. when a woman who owns the open space of land with meshed wire fence allegedly poisoned the cows.

He said the woman came and met the herder grazing cows on her piece of land and she spread a substance believed to be poison on eight of the cows.

“This is not a farm, it is an open place so I wonder why anybody would poison cows for grazing here,” he said.

He added that he has addressed about 500 Fulanis around Apo, urging them to remain calm as the police were on top on the situation.

When contacted the APO Divisional Police Officer (DPO) CSP Yahaya Jelani, said he has received a report from Fulani on the incident and the investigations have started on the matter.

He said the suspect is still at large, adding that she will soon be arrested.
