8 children found dead inside abandoned car in Lagos

Tears flowed down the eyes of residents of Jah-Michael, Badagry, Lagos State, when the lifeless bodies of eight children were found on Saturday inside an abandoned vehicle in the area.

 It was gathered that the deceased children were allegedly playing inside the abandoned vehicle when they mistakenly triggered off the child’s lock of the vehicle.

 They were said to have died of suffocation hours later after struggling without any success to free themselves. The unfortunate incident occurred at the weekend.

 Daily Trust reliably learnt that the attention of members of the community was drawn to the vehicle by a passerby who noticed the odd position of the children.

 Sources said those who were at the scene forced the door open but only to find out that the children whose ages were put between six and eight had died.

 The shocking discovery brought tears to the eyes of residents who demanded the police to carry out a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the children.

 One of the parents of the children made the grim discovery on Saturday, December 4, 2021, and subsequently raised the alarm.

 Lagos State Police spokesman, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said, “The eight children were said to have mistakenly locked themselves in an abandoned car while playing. Their bodies have been recovered and deposited at the Badagry General Hospital’s morgue for an autopsy so as to determine the actual cause of death.

 “Notwithstanding the report made to the Police, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered a thorough and speedy investigation into the circumstances surrounding their death. The CP also commiserates with the families of the victims”.
