78 communities receive N65m flood relief materials

The Niger State government has distributed N65 million worth of relief materials to 78 communities whose farmlands were destroyed as a result of flood that ravaged Mokwa and Edati local government areas of the state this year.

Three wards in Mokwa and one ward in Edati were destroyed by flood that occurred on September 19.

Alhaji Ibrahim Inga, Director General of the state Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), who attributed the flood to the rains and water released from river Kaduna and river Niger, said more than 500 hectares of rice farm as well as houses were washed away by flood.

The District Head of Wuya Kede, Alhaji Ibrahim Yawa, commended the state government for the intervention.

Alhaji Mohammed Alhassan, a beneficiary, said, “I am very happy that today, government has fulfilled its promise.”
