A 77-year-old woman, Okonji Bridget with Matric number 111305030 was among the 1,008 students of the Faculty of Education who were awarded a first degree on Tuesday at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) 50th Convocation ceremony.

The retired septuagenarian who graduated from the Department of Educational Foundations formerly called Guidance and Counselling department (Sandwich programme) described the achievement as her dream comes true.

According to her, she applied for the degree programme so as to overcome boredom at home after retirement and to gain knowledge.

“I am a retired officer and I have worked in many countries around the world and also in Nigeria where I finally retired. You know when you retire from work, you will not want to stay at home and be dying slowly. That was why I decided to run the degree programme and I am happy I did,” she said.

She however advised that no one should feel too old to go to school; noting that learning remains a life-long adventure.

She noted that education has no limit, stressing that it is from cradle to death. “So that you can add value to the society,” she said.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, had said the Varsity will graduate a total of 12,811 students during the 2017/2018 convocation ceremony.
