A former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Canada and Mexico, Prof Iyorwuese Hagher, yesterday unveiled three of his new books in Abuja as part of activities to celebrate his 75th birthday.

The three books unveiled include ‘Leadership: Leading Africa out of Chaos; ‘The English Language and Its Discontents’ and ‘Beyond Ethnic Grievance’.

Speaking at the unveiling, Prof. Hagher said he authored the books as part of his contribution to the country’s development, especially in the aspect of leadership.

“I’m launching these books because I want to be heard. I have benefitted so much from this great country. At the age of 75, I have considered talking to Nigerians through these three books.

“People claim that there are born leaders but I don’t think so. We can all learn the principles and practice of being good leaders. This book essentially offers a God-centred kind of leadership. If you are God-centred, you will be a good leader,” he said.

He said the kind of leaders that can lead Africa out of chaos are those that have the mindsets of the likes of Sir Aminu Kano, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Nelson Mandela among others, who fought colonialism and western oppression.

He said the two other books delved into the oppressive nature of the English Language as well as the Tiv/Jukun crisis, which had led to loss of lives and property.
